A school volleyball team did themselves proud after competing in an international competition.

Tendring Technology College were chosen to represent England at the Volleyball Schools World Championships in Cyprus.

After a week of intense physical and mental pressure, the team finished 20th, having beaten Cyprus and Nigeria along the way.

Mark Harris, head of the school's PE department, was delighted with the achievement of his players.

"Tendring proved themselves to be worthy to wear the England shirt," he said.

"The team has never been content to simply be the best school team in the country, so to face the rest of the world was the true test."

England were drawn in a difficult pool which included the much-fancied teams from Germany and Iran.

The team was Adam Taylor, Andrew Simons, Geoge Petrakos, Mark Dean, Murray Aldrich, Philip Stallard, Ricky May, Shane Lord, Simon Cowing, Stewart Tompkins, Stewart Tompkins and Wayne Davies
