The future of Frinton's famous WI hall could be in doubt unless it can raise up to £13,000 in six months.

That is the estimated sum needed to install disabled toilets in the Fourth Avenue building to bring it in line with the latest Disabilities Act.

The hall has been home to Frinton WI for 80 years and Frinton Summer Theatre since the 1940s.

But without action before October 1, the WI will not be allowed to hire it out.

Mollie Anderson, president of Frinton WI, said: "We can't afford to lose the hall. It is ours and we are responsible for the upkeep of it.

"There are no two ways about it. If we can't hire out the hall, we can't keep it going because of the cost of repairs."

It also hosts the horticultural society, photographic society, a keep-fit club and a bridge club.

Mrs Anderson was confident the cash target will be reached, but called on the community to rally behind the cause.
