Police investigating alleged prostitution in Colchester arrested two women in a raid on a flat.

They moved in after complaints from people living near the two-bedroom home in Clarendon Way.

One woman was arrested on suspicion of running a disorderly house while the second was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine.

One of the women, who is Russian, was also reported to immigration officers for allegedly coming into the country to be involved in prostitution.

The women, one in her early 30s, the other in her late 20s, have both been released on police bail for further inquiries.

A third woman, who is 49, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of controlling prostitution.

She, too, has been released on bail for further inquiries.

Police said the first two arrests, on Saturday, followed a two-week intelligence operation.
