The first Anti-Social Behaviour Order has been issued in Chelmsford against a man who has clocked up 10 offences since Christmas.
The 44-year-old Melbourne man was issued with the order by Chelmsford Magistrates last Tuesday after answering charges of theft, assault and threatening behaviour.
The man is now serving a prison sentence for the offences and is expected to be released within three months after which the order will become active.
The conditions of the ASBO are he is not to consume alcohol in public in the Chelmsford area and he is not allowed in Melbourne Parade except to pick up his weekly giro.
The application was made by Community Safety Sgt Jo Byrne who said: "He is an alcoholic and was persistently going into a particular shop in Melbourne Parade and upsetting members of staff.
"He is known to the local community and has committed a large number of offences since Christmas.
"Other measures have been attempted with this person. We tried to engage with him and other agencies have been involved. We felt we needed to protect him and the community."
