So the Lockers, of Leighfields Avenue, Eastwood, have decided to raise £22,000 to buy vital life-saving equipment and items to make children's stay in hospital more pleasant.

A major part of the fundraising will be an auction, which includes a stay at a London hotel.

Daisy Locker was just two-years-old in May 2003 when doctors discovered that she had a brain tu-mour.

Although with the help of Southend Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, the tumour was gone by July 2003, she had to endure another 400 days of chemotherapy.

The couple have already managed to raise £12,000 but hope to raise much more with the auction later this month.

They have already sold 260 of the 330 £10 tickets.

The couple, who own the Paris Restaurant in London Road, Westcliff, are close friends with television chef Paul Gaylor, of Rectory Road, Hadleigh, so he has generously donated two big prizes.

One lot includes a two-night stay at the Lanesborough Hotel at Hyde Park Corner, where he works as an executive chef, while in the other someone will get a chance to work with him as a chef for the day.

To buy tickets for the Friday, April 30 auction, sponsored by Begbies Traynor, at the Marquee, County Hotel, Aviation Way call 01702 420024.
