Children are planning a sit-down protest in a bid to stop their play area being turned into flower beds.
Parents and children in the Thaxted Road area of Blackheath, Colchester, are up in arms over the council's decision to turn the remaining bit of the green where children play into a flower bed.
And the younger children are planning to sit on the green in protest when council officers arrive to begin work on Tuesday.
But councillors representing the ward claim the works are necessary because other residents are tired of having footballs kicked into their gardens by older children.
Craig Sutton (Lib Dem, Berechurch) has been heavily involved in the matter.
He said young children would still have a small area of the green left to play on but older children had to be discouraged from using the green.
Instead, he said, a football area with goalposts had been put up in Finchingfield Way for them to use.
