Two men taken to hospital after a crash had a lucky escape.
One car ended up on its roof and emergency services feared the occupants were trapped.
The accident happened on the A133 between the Wivenhoe turn-off and Elmstead Market just before 2pm yesterday.
Emergency crews were called to the Clacton bound carriageway, where two vehicles had collided.
One of the first people on scene was off-duty ambulance technician Sarah Newman. She said: "I parked up, grabbed my bag and went to see who was injured.
"The lady in one car didn't seem hurt and one of the two men in the second car seemed OK.
"The other man, a 19-year-old, had managed to get out of the car but was confused about what had happened."
A couple of minutes later, the ambulance crews arrived and took over.
The woman was checked over but did not go to hospital. The two men were taken to Colchester General Hospital.
