The 21-year-old, who is expected to return to the starting line-up at high-flying Huddersfield Town tomorrow, has impressed this campaign and admitted he would like to extend his successful spell with the Seasiders.

"I'd definitely be interested in staying here next season and it's just a case now of sitting down and seeing what's what," said Hunt, who is on loan from First Division Derby County.

"I've got another year left on my Derby contract, but I've enjoyed it at Southend and there's nothing better than playing first team football.

"The two clubs would need to sort something out between themselves but if that could be arranged then I would like to stay here next year."

Hunt added he was relishing this Saturday's showdown with a Terriers side, currently third in the table.

The composed youngster should replace suspended Blues skipper Kevin Maher in the centre of the park and is expecting another tough test against Peter Jackson's promotion chasing side.
