Billericay caused one of the upsets of the season on Bank Holiday Monday, stunning a bumper Park Lane crowd by recording a 2-0 success against Ryman Premier champions Canvey Island.

On a day when the Gulls were presented with the Championship shield, Justin Edinburgh's strugglers gained revenge for a 3-0 loss at New Lodge on Boxing Day, and in the process moved to the fringes of safety.

They edged in front after 15 minutes when Danny Hockton got on the end of Jamie Dormer's centre to the delight of the travelling Blues supporters.

The hosts increased the pressure as the half progressed, threatening on a couple of occasions through Junior McDougald and Ollie Berquez. But with prolific frontman Lee Boylan out with a calf injury, visiting keeper Luke Weaver was rarely troubled.

Billericay who should have increased their advantage as the half progressed, with Hockton smacking a drive against the post and Michael Black being denied by Danny Potter when clean through on goal.

The second half saw further opportunities come and go with Jeff Minton and Gavin Cowan missing guilt-edged chances to level the game.

Billericay had failed to score two goals in a game in their last eight Ryman Premier outings, but with time ticking and Canvey pushing numbers forward in search of an illusive equaliser, the visitors counter-attacked and secured the points when sub Steve Jones shot across Potter to secure a crucial win.
