As building work on a £400,000 recreation of historic cottages in Leigh goes full steam ahead plans are already afoot to get the buildings listed.
John Cross, owner of the Boatyard restaurant in the High Street in Leigh's Old Town, has been trying to rebuild the 16th century "Juniper" cottages in the town for more than three years.
Building work on his labour of love is now well under way and he is determined that his hard work should make a lasting mark.
Mr Cross said: "As soon as the buildings are finished I am going to apply to have them listed. "They were demolished in the first place and I want to make sure when I'm dead and gone that does not happen again.
"It's quite unusual for new buildings to be listed, but this will be an authentic recreation of a period building and deserves to be recognised."
