A television programme centred on Manningtree over the Easter weekend was largely ignored by those living in and around the town.
Those who did watch the three-day evening programme featuring Matthew Hopkins, the notorious 17th century Witchfinder General, said they had been disappointed.
"I have to say I thought it was boring and I wasn't overly impressed," said Brian Rolfe, chairman of Lawford Parish Council.
"There was no local input," said Lawford Dale resident Catherine Wilkins.
One of the main complaints was the failure of local people to get tickets to be in the live audience in Ogilvie Hall, Lawford, but a spokeswoman for Hanrahan Media Productions explained: "We have a regular following and the tickets are always snapped up right away."
