A Hi-tech system to track child abusers and prevent them from offending has been rejected by the Government.

The Phoenix Survivors, a group representing victims of child sex abuse, has been trying to get the Government to adopt a tracking system to monitor convicted abusers around the clock.

Shy Keenan, of Colchester, spokeswoman for the group, said: "We cannot wait for another child to die before we take this seriously. If we get public support the Government won't have any choice."

The device Phoenix Survivors is pushing for, the SG Rom (Sky Guardian Remote Offender Monitoring), provides round-the-clock satellite surveillance.
