Picturesque gardens behind Colchester's Mercury Theatre could one day be turned into new rehearsal studios.

The popular theatre is growing short of rehearsal space for productions, according to chief executive Dee Evans.

One option, Ms Evans said, was turning the garden area behind the theatre into rehearsal space. But she said she would prefer getting an existing building in the town centre.

The need for extra rehearsal space is not pressing at the moment but could become more so in the future, she said.
