Wardens will be drafted in to Castle Point to clamp down on motorists who try to dodge the law, it has been revealed.

The highways and leisure committee agreed last night to adopt a decriminalised parking scheme in the autumn, taking responsibility from the police.

The council will now take control of parking and employ a squad of wardens who will patrol the streets of the borough handing out tickets for those wrongly parked on yellow lines, or in disabled bays.

Highways and leisure chairman Ray Howard welcomed the scheme which will see £60 fines dished out to motorists not abiding by parking laws.
