Canvey Island were beaten at the death by a late strike from Hednesford in their FA Trophy clash at Villa Park.
Hednesford took the lead on 27 minutes against the Ryman Premier League champions through Anthony Maguire.
Canvey struck back with a goal from striker Lee Boylan on 46 minutes and were two up in as many minutes with an own goal from assistant player manager Chris Brindley.
A free-kick from Les Hines put the teams back on level terms on 52 minutes before Brindley settled the match with a strike from the edge of the area with four minutes to go.
