A new bypass for mid Essex could be on the cards.
The road, which would link the A12 to the A130 to the north-east of Chelmsford, is one of the schemes for which funding is being sought by the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA).
It is part of the first regional bid for over £1.5 bn of Government money to specifically boost economic growth over the next four years.
The cost of the bypass, highlighted in the London to Ipswich study (Lois) in 2002, would be £75m and is part of the £198m being sought for new or improved transport infrastructure in the east of England.
John Reynolds, chair of EERA's regional planning panel, said local authorities had been asked to come up with their preferred projects which needed to be funded between 2005 and 2008 and the north-east Chelmsford bypass was one of them.
