Colchester's Gavin Cowan ended up on the losing side in yesterday's FA Trophy final.
Former Braintree Town skipper Cowan played in Canvey Island's 3-2 defeat to Hednesford.
Hednesford took the lead when Anthony Maguire slotted in from close range after a shot was parried into his path.
But two goals in as many minutes put Canvey ahead with Lee Boylan netting and then Chris Brindley scoring an own goal.
Les Hines' 25-yard free-kick again levelled matters before Brindley went from hero to villain with a volley from the edge of the area.
