A row of condemned stables used as a meeting point by children were ravaged by fire in the first of two suspicious fires in Dunmow over the weekend.
At just before 6am on Saturday Dunmow crews were called from the scene of a car crash to Brick Kiln Farm, St Edmund's Lane where up to nine stables were ablaze.
Station officer Norman Hardman said: "This is a suspicious fire and is being investigated by police. The stables and a range of buildings were badly damaged and we were there for between an hour and a half and two hours."
PC Neville Hayden said the buildings were due for demolition and were known to be somewhere local youngsters often gathered.
On Sunday morning at around 10.15am firefighters were called to the rear of Stokes Butchers in the High Street, Dunmow where a pile of rubbish was on fire.
