Plans for a Maldon car dealership's new home have been given the go-ahead - despite concerns about the finer details of the proposals.

Members of Maldon District Council's planning and licensing committee approved two separate applications from Quest Motors Group at a meeting last night

But they said the proposals for a new car showroom needed some points readdressing.

The showroom is to be built on a triangular piece of land in front of the Focus DIY store and plans for the site include extensive landscaping.

But several members, including Cllr Rodney Bass (Con, Great Totham), said the area designated for displaying cars would need to be reviewed because of concerns passing drivers would be distracted.

Councillors agreed to the plans but said they would not want the opening hours to include Sundays or bank holidays

The council gave the land to Quest Motors last December in the form of a long term lease based on a capital value of £600,000.

Quest, currently based in the town's High Street, has long wanted to move to larger premises it says would be more suited to it.
