Pub landlord Nigel Martin has been told that he must ask for permission to keep the red marble war memorial he has erected outside the Western Arms, Silver End.
The 7ft high cross and pedestal remembers the American pilots who flew from Rivenhall Airfield during the Second World War and who drank at the same bar used by customers today.
"I am not anticipating any problems, though," he said.
"The planners have been wonderful.
"They say that I should not have a problem, providing there are no complaints.
"I am not aware of anyone taking a dislike to it. In fact, everyone loves it.
"The pub bar has its own memorial to the airmen and is decorated with memorabilia provided by local people.
"The fireplace in the saloon bar, now removed, used to have pilots' names scratched on it," said Mr Martin.
Mr Martin's application for planning permission will be considered by Witham Area Committee.
