Champion learner and mother of five Lisa Cooper from Westcliff-on-Sea has appeared on nationwide GMTV breakfast television to back up the Prime Minister's wife's call for improved work-life balance.

Lisa, winner of the prestigious "Juggling To Learn" category at the 2002 Champions of Learning Awards, supported Cherie Blair's recent call for better access to high quality child provision to help families to achieve an improved work-life balance.

The Benfleet-based teacher appealed on national TV for better quality, more affordable access to after-school clubs, day nurseries and workplace provision to help single parents in particular to juggle their families and their working lives successfully.

Lisa, aged 38 has five children aged from five to 17, and until recently she was a single parent who had overcome dyslexia to qualify as a teacher and top learner - an achievement recognised in the 2002 Champions of Learning Awards organised by the Learning and Skills Council, Essex (LSC).

Lisa told GMTV of her delight in winning the Champions of Learning Award and how it gave her the confidence and £500 to continue her studies.
