Excited Jan Porter has just become one of the latest modern matrons.
Jan, from South Woodham Ferrers, is working for South Essex Partnership NHS Trust at Runwell Hospital.
She is covering the acute care wards for people who have a serious mental illness.
Jan has worked for the trust, and its predecessors, since 1981 and was previously the clinical leader of the home treatment team in Southend.
She said: "I've always wanted to do a job like this - in the front line, listening to people who have things to say about their treatment and keeping up our high standards."
