Sunshine conditions set records tumbling when the annual Castle Point and Rochford senior school's athletic championships were staged at Basildon's Gloucester Park track.

Rayleigh's Fitzwimarc School proved to be the dominant team, winning not only the overall honours but also the individual girls' and boys' crowns.

For the girls they won all but the under-13 prize, which went to Hockley's Greensward. Fitz took the under-14, 15 and 17 age groups.

It was a different story for the boys. Fitz were under-13 champs, but the other age groups were shared around.

Greensward were tops at under-14 level while Canvey's Cornelius Vermuyden were tops for under-15s and Thundersley's King John collected under-17 honours.

Top record breaker was Sweyne Park's Joe Blake whose 55.4sec time in the under-15 boys 400 metres smashed a mark set 20 years ago.
