A Canvey headteacher fears a rubble-filled site next to her school could attract vandals and vermin.

The Lubbins car park has been used for tipping ever since councillors turned down an application for luxury flats on the site on April 26.

Lubbins Park Primary, in Zandi Road, is next to the site and is warning its pupils not to go near it.

Already vandals have been throwing bricks from the rubble on to the school grounds in the evening and weekends and headteacher Sharon Clare fears it could get even worse.

She said: "It gets thrown on to the school fields outside school hours. The caretaker has to keep cleaning up. He has to do a site check every morning and clean it up.

"He's already suffering, because they also thrown them at his property, which is nearby."

Andrew Crowne-Spencer, chairman of the premises committee, said: "The use of hardcore and rubble to cordon off an area within close proximity of a school is not appropriate. This is due to both health and safety issues, and the possibility of vandalism occurring."

Castle Point Council has admitted it is helpless to stop the owners of the site tipping there.

The Evening Echo has been unable to reach the owners for comment.

The site is not an official car park, but was used as such for years.
