Maggie Cooper is adding a fundraising trek to the contribution she has made to the Headway Essex charity.

As speech and language therapist, trustee and former chairman, she has worked for the benefit of people living with a brain injury for 20 years.

Now she is gearing up for a five-day trek along the Inca trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.

Taking in some of the world's most stunning scenery, Mrs Cooper will journey at altitudes up to 4,200 metres (13,779 ft) from Ollantayambo to Machu Picchu.

The aim is to raise £2,500, half of which will benefit the group's attenders, their families and carers, the rest going to Headway UK.

Mrs Cooper said: "I try to go to the gym twice a week, and I've joined the Ramblers' Association. And I'll be walking from Walton to Jaywick this weekend. I have difficulty in climbing hills - there are not many round here!"
