A 51-year-old man has died after he was thrown from his tractor when it was in collision with a lorry on the A13 at Basildon.
The married man, from the South Ockendon area, suffered severe head injuries and a broken leg in the crash at 9.20am yesterday, on the Southend-bound carriageway near the Five Bells roundabout.
He was taken unconscious to Basildon Hospital but died soon after arriving. Police are not naming him until next of kin have been told.
The blue tractor was towing a trailer of manure when it was in collision with a white Mercedes lorry which had a half load of timber. The driver of the lorry, from Lincolnshire, was said to be shaken but unhurt.
