A partnership aimed at meeting the growing skills needs of the Thames Gateway South Essex area has been created.

It is being run through the NOVA Partnership and unites 15 colleges and training centres in the area.

The partnership has an annual training budget of just under £5million, mainly funded by the Learning and Skills Council and its aim is to work with employers, providing training.

Vocational programmes, include Entry to Employment and apprenticeships - in areas including construction, engineering, hairdressing, care, and information technology.

The NOVA partnership was founded in 1997 when four providers led by South East Essex College in Southend came together to offer training programmes for the unemployed.

Chairman Jan Hodges said: "With so many new partners on board we can ensure the people of south Essex have the chance they need to enhance their skills and make the most of the employment opportunities the Thames Gateway will undoubtedly bring."
