Firefighters evacuated children from a park after a fire broke out and spread fiercely across the grass.
The blaze started at 7.30pm yesterday when a large number of car parts caught fire after being dumped in a ditch in Tip Road, Canvey.
The flames spread across the grass to a nearby park, and was within five metres of a group of playing children.
A Canvey fire service spokesman said: "Everything that was dumped was destroyed and the grass surrounding the area was burnt.
"There was a group of children about ten years old playing nearby and we had to clear the area and move them out of the way."
