A family was left heartbroken as their dog died just days after being savagely kicked by burglars.
Tasha Beckett, 16, of Hereford Walk, Craylands, Basildon, returned home to find the timid mongrel, Pee Wee, slumped on the sofa in pain.
He died two days later from multiple injuries.
The family, who have three other dogs, believe the seven-year-old dog must have cowered in the corner while the burglars searched the house, before fleeing with just CDs, DVDs and 200 cigarettes.
Choking back tears, Tasha's mum, Jackie Summersell, 51, said: "Pee Wee was so timid.
"It looks like the burglars were someone we knew which is why the other dogs didn't bark or make a fuss."
Basildon Police are appealing for witnesses to call them on 01268 532212.
