A man who died after being overcome by toxic smoke in a flat fire has been named as 23-year-old Barry Young.
He was sleeping at his flat in Delaware Road, Shoebury, on Monday when his sofa caught fire.
Firefighters said the old sofa gave off toxic fumes which could kill within three minutes.
Mr Young was pronounced dead on arrival at Southend Hospital.
