On a very busy weekend of athletics, Colchester Harriers sent a team to the National Veterans Eight Stage Road Relay Championships at Sutton Coldfield on Saturday for the first time.
Competing over an undulating course against 70 teams from around the country, they finished 13th - and less than a minute outside the top ten.
Mark Gamble-Thompson gave them a strong start, putting every effort in to achieve 15th place with a time of 15m 42.
Mick Bond took over and gained two places to 13th in 16m 18, looking strong despite being in heavy marathon training.
Eddie White then found out how good the opposition was by slipping to 21st position with a time of 17m 28.
