A British Legion chief was today celebrating victory in a battle with the town's library.
A row broke out after John Halls, chairman of Walton Royal British Legion branch, took a box of poppies to Walton library last year.
However, he was told the library could not have them because the British Legion was a charity.
But today Mr Halls was celebrating after library bosses had a change of heart.
Mr Halls, who is also chairman of A Group, which covers 19 branches of the Royal British Legion throughout Tendring and Colchester, described last year's ban as "scandalous".
"I was fuming. I did not understand it at all," he said.
Essex County Council said it was its view it did not have charity collections.
It said: "If we did, there would be charity tins everywhere."
Portfolio holder Elizabeth Hart has decided to reverse the decision.
A county council spokesman said: "She obviously decided it was a worthy cause."
