Essex and England batsman Nasser Hussain has announced his retirement from Test and first-class cricket with immediate effect.
The 36-year-old decided that the test match against New Zealand at Lords three days ago - where he scored a winning century - would be his last game.
Hussain captained England in 45 of his 96 Tests before stepping down in favour of Michael Vaughan in 2003.
Hussain scored 5,764 Test runs at an average of 37.18 during his England career.
