Hairdresser John, who has turned 60, has raised £2,500 for Elizabeth Lowry ward at Southend Hospital.
He said: "I usually do something for charity on my birthday every five years. I normally swim 100 lengths, but because it was my 60th I decided to up the ante to show them what I am made of.
"Warrior Square pool very kindly gave me a lane and I swam 150 lengths to raise funds for the charity ward."
