Westcliff Hardcourts and Thorpe Bay were celebrating this week after two of their teams reached the finals of the Essex Cup.

The Hardcourts' ladies team of Lynsey Watt, Diana Carradus, Jacqui Moody and Gill Sanderson knocked out Essex Senior Cup holders Woodford Wells.

And the 2.5 to 1.5 victory was even sweeter because the Woodford Wells team included Essex County ladies' captain Pat Wire and former international player Mel Harling.

Thorpe Bay's success came in the Essex Intermediate Cup where the men's team beat Danb-ury 4-0 in their semi-final.

David Tubbs, Graham Bloomfield, Simon Cuth-bert and Lee Blackman will contest the final on Sunday, June 20.

Westcliff Hardcourts' Richard Barham, Simon Bonham, Simon Chesher and Gordon Armstrong lost to Connaught by one set in their Essex Senior Cup semi-final.

There was county success for Jon Hallett and Sarah Naylor in the Essex Winter Singles Series finals.

Hallett beat Westcliff Hard clubmate Matthew Pearce 6-3 7-5 in the boys' event, while Naylor, a member at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, was triumphant in the girls' event 6-2 6-0.
