Residents in Clacton look set to get their own parliamentary constituency for the first time under an electoral carve-up which will create a new seaside MP.

Planners at the Boundary Commission today unveiled their recommendations to overhaul the map of mid and north Essex which will have major implications for some.

Possible changes were first revealed a year ago and have been out for discussion and consultation.

If agreed, it will mean there will be a new Harwich and North Essex Constituency and the new Clacton one.

Clacton currenty comes under the existing Harwich seat held by Labour's Ivan Henderson but would stand alone.

The North Essex seat as it is now is held by Conservative Bernard Jenkin.

The reason behind the changes is the populations in the different constituencies differ so greatly.

Under the proposals Clacton would have around 66,000 people while Harwich and North Essex will cover just over 67,000 residents.
