More than 200 letters have gone out to parents of pupils at a Colchester school urging them to abandon their cars and let their children walk to school for at least one morning.
This week is Walk to School Week and on Friday, youngsters from St George's School are expected to do just that.
The event has been organised by LA Fitness, whose staff will be among parents escorting the children from three meeting points around the area to the school at about 8.15am.
A spokeswoman for the centre said: "We have not done anything like this before but have, with the school's very great co-operation, sent out 200 letters to parents urging them to leave their cars at home and walk with their children to school."
