Crowds of walkers pounded the fields and streets of Crays Hill as they took part in the third annual Billericay and District Fun Walk to raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

Around 500 fund raisers laced up their walking boots to raise money for 35 Essex charities at Barleylands Farm in Barleylands Road on the afternoon of Sunday, May 23.

The total amount raised is not yet known, but event organiser, Billericay and Wickford MP John Baron, hopes it will beat last year's amount of £30,000.

Walkers could chose from routes of one, three or five miles in the afternoon that was fun for all the family. Some good causes set out stalls in the barn to raise awareness and collect donations.

The Billericay Town Crier, Jim Shrubb set the walk on its way and there was a barbecue and refreshments available for the crowds.

Mr Baron said: "It was great to see the local community and 35 charities and good causes come together and raise money.

"Many local people, both adults and children, will benefit from the funds raised. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with the band, Addiction the barbecue and other refreshments being very popular. It was a very festive atmosphere and we are hoping that next year's event is just as successful."
