A concerned resident has called for action after watching vehicles race past her home at speeds of up to 100mph.
Helen Turner, who has a home on the B1414 in Beaumont, is organising a petition to campaign for the speed limit, which is currently 60mph, to be reduced.
She has already won the backing of Great Oakley and Little Oakley councillor David Lines and last night won the backing of Great Oakley Parish Council.
Now she hopes to force Essex County Council into taking measures.
She said: "They go too fast to even see. It seems so stupid. We get a lot of traffic and I want someone to do something about the speeds being unlawfully obtained."
Essex County Council spokesman Laurence Cawley said: "Speed limits are always considered when people ask us to look into them.
"We will look seriously at any request for them to be reduced."
