Insurance giant Marsh, crippled when 295 employees died in the Twin Towers atrocity, is determined to be ready for any future catastrophe.

The firm wants to erect seven portable buildings behind its offices in Newland Street, Witham.

The idea is that if any of the firm's buildings should be damaged in a future attack, critical staff can work from emergency offices in the town. The buildings will not be put up unless the firm is attacked, however.

A company spokesman said that the firm had selected Witham as the most appropriate site because of the space in the walled garden under the cedar trees off Newland Street.

It was also within a reasonable distance of other offices.
