A junior hairdresser proved she was a cut above the rest when she won an award.

Jessica Carpenter, 18, of Scizors Hair Studio, in Gardner Avenue, Corringham, was awarded student of the year by J & E Training of Basildon was presented with a day at Vidal Sassoon salon in London, a trophy and a certificate an awards ceremony in Chelmsford.
Staff at the salon, which was set up three years, were delighted when Jessica from Stanford-le-Hope beat tough competition to win the title.
Owner of Scizors Kathy Greaves said: "I am thrilled and delighted forJessica. Overthe past two years, she has been very dedicated and hard working. I am sure that whenshe is fully qualified in the autumn she will make an outstanding hairdresser."
