A woman has been praised for her actions after she stopped a bogus caller from getting into her home.
The incident happened at a block of flats in Porter Way, Clacton, some time between 10.30am and 11.30am on Tuesday.
Elaine Seymour, of Clacton police, said: "A man buzzed her saying he was from the gas board and wanted to read her meter."
The woman told the man her meter was outside but he insisted it was inside her home. She said: "She would not let him in and showed him the meter outside."
The bogus caller was not wearing a uniform and had no identification. Mrs Seymour said the woman phoned the gas board to see if he was genuine but they confirmed they had no employees working in the area at the time.
"This woman did exactly the right thing in not allowing the man into her home," said the spokeswoman.
