Anxious parents have four weeks to find new places for their children after learning that their Braintree nursery is to close.

Parents have been told the Seymour House nursery at St Michael's Hospital in Rayne Road is to close on July 30 after 14 years on the site.

Worried mum Fiona Lockhart, of Marlborough Road, Braintree, said the news had come out of the blue.

''We knew the site was being redeveloped, but thought the nursery would find alternative accommodation or extend the lease,'' she explained.

Around 90 families use the nursery in one of the former hospital buildings. The site is earmarked for redevelopment and includes plans for a new £12m community hospital and housing.

John Player, one of the partners in the business, said they were all very sad, but had been unsuccessful in finding alternative accommodation. He said they were not giving up and remained hopeful of reopening somewhere in Braintree.
