Southend Golf Club held their guest day on Sunday and the heat of the day was matched by the golf from the winners.

It was really a one-horse race with Dave Pepper and Boyce Hill guest Steve Neale winning both morning and afternoon rounds to triumph overall as well.

But the club operate a one prize only system so that gave some of the other players a chance.

The pair amassed a great score of 50 points in the morning and followed that up with 38 in the afternoon, over just 13 holes, for a total of 88.

Pepper has seen his handicap falling like a stone this year and it is sure to continue with form like this.

Runners-up with 83 points were Mike Burch and Roger O'Boyle. They scored a 47 points in the morning and a very solid 36 after lunch.

With the top pair out of contention, the morning was won by Roy George and his guest Bob Edwards who ran the winners very close to score 49 points.

They fell away from the pace in the afternoon but still gave a good account of themselves.

Second was an old member who recently rejoined, John Worth, and his guest from Thorpe Hall, Chris Kirby, with 47 points.

Following elimination on the one prize only rule, the afternoon went to the oldest pairing in the field, Ray Threadgold and Joe Deal, from Rochford.

Threadgold and Deal, with a combined age of 142 years, scored 32 points over the 13 holes to beat Ian Spooner and Rob Mann, with 30 points, into second place.
