Arena Essex were in action for the second time in 24 hours when they travelled to Swindon for an Elite league match but were beaten 42-47 after a last heat decider.
Holding a six-point advantage from the first meeting at the Purfleet Raceway, the Hammers managed to claim the bonus point to finish with some consolation for their part in a closely contested encounter.
The teams were closely matched throughout and the Hammers came to the last heat trailing 40-43 but Leigh Adams was soon in control although Mark Loram managed to deny Steve Johnston for the runners-up position to ensure Arena the bonus point.
Arena are scheduled to visit Eastbourne tomorrow, but will be without Greg Walasek, who is riding in his native Poland.
