There was every chance of a matt finish when Thorpe Hall held the mid-week medal competition.

For four players with the first name Matthew were in the first six home.

Cadets are not allowed to pay entry fees so they cannot actually win the competion, but are allowed to enter for practice.

The top score was a gross 76, off 15, by club professional Bill McColl's 14-year-old son Josh, which produced a net 61 and a handicap reduction to 13, much to the delight of his father.

The second score was a net 67 by Matt Brown, another cadet, off 13, now cut to 12, but the winner was Matthew Oliver, with a gross 69, off 10, on countback from Bill Preedy, (3), Matt Bradley, (5) and Matt Wall, off four but now down to three for the first time.
