New mid-Essex train operator 'one' Great Eastern has fallen back on its punctuality performance figures for May, the second month of its new ownership.

The service notched up 86.8 per cent of trains on time slightly behind its sister company Anglia Express and West Anglia services and nearly eight points adrift of Anglia's local services in Norfolk and Suffolk.

However reliability figures for trains actually running were 99.5 per cent with fewer than 0.5 per cent of trains cancelled.

A spokesman for OGE said: "We continue to do well for keeping to times but there were some incidents in the month of May including suicides which slowed things down.

"It is like comparing an incident on the M25 with one on a B road. The effect on our busy line is like the motorway whereas on more rural lines it has less of a knock on effect."
