A historic boat wharf dating back to the 15th century is set for a £27,000 revamp
Set for a spruce up - Strand Wharf in Leigh Old Town Picture: STEVE O'CONNELL
Strand Wharf, in Leigh's Old Town, can be traced back to the 1400s and now Leigh Town Council intends to spruce it up.
Geoff Fulford, town clerk of the council, said: "When we get permission the work will go-ahead."
The work will go hand-in-hand with £70,000 plans to restore a Victorian fishing cottage next to the site. Members of the Leigh Society have been raising money for the cottage project for more than two years.
Donald Fraser, of both the Leigh Society and the town's council, said: "The two projects will be working closely together."
