Police investigating an armed robbery at a busy Thundersley supermarket today staged a full reconstruction.

Ten officers were on the scene in the hope of jogging the memories of any potential witnesses who may have seen the armed gang raid a security van outside Sainsbury's at Stadium Way.

Officers believe the gun-toting thieves planned the attack for weeks and fear the robbers could strike again.

The reconstruction, which included officers tracing the steps of the robbers and the position of the security van and getaway vehicles, took place from 7.30am today - exactly one week after the robbers struck.

PC Alex Gartshore, who is leading the investigation, hoped shoppers, who may have been doing their weekly shop on Friday morning, would remember something from the day.

The three armed robbers raided the security van at 9.37am last Friday, shortly after it arrived at the store.

The gang fled in a number of getaway cars with a small sum of money.

A green Daewoo car was found abandoned soon after the robbery near Albon Engineering, and police are also hoping to hear from people who work on the Rayleigh Industrial Estate.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact Rayleigh police on 01268 775533, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
