A doctor in his 70s who worked as a GP at surgeries throughout the south of England, including Chelmsford, despite being warned he did not have the proper qualifications has been found guilty of misconduct.

At a disciplinary hearing at the General Medical Council (GMC) on Friday, Dr Krishan Lal Marwah, formerly of Kinfauns Road, Goodmayes, Ilford, and now living in New Delhi, was found guilty of a series of allegations of misconduct covering a period from January 2000 to October 2003.

He was suspended by the GMC's interim orders committee in November last year while an investigation took place.

It was said Dr Marwah, who qualified in Calcutta in 1954, took a job as a GP at the Chelmer Village Surgery without possessing a certificate of competence.

Dr Marwah admitted some of the facts but denies serious professional misconduct.

The hearing was adjourned after the GMC's fitness to practise panel found him guilty of most of the denied allegations.
